In 2012, a team of scientists carried out a research in which they vacuumed the clothing and gear of readers to Antarctica – travellers, boat crews, researchers and others – in advance of they disembarked from their plane or boat.  The particles was then combed for seeds and plant pieces that can expand in soil, revealing that the members unwittingly carried an average of 9.5 seeds and plant components on their outfits and products.
