Police: Oakton resident fatally shoots man who entered home with ‘large landscaping rock’
(Up-to-date at 6:05 p.m. on 11/13/2022) A man was shot and killed in Oakton past evening subsequent an evident combat with a homeowner that led the latter to retrieve a gun, law enforcement say.
The Fairfax County Police Division is now investigating the deadly shooting in the 11400 block of Waples Mill Road as a self-defense scenario, Second Lt. James Curry advised media yesterday. Preliminarily, there’s no sign that the two guys associated in the incident knew every other, he said.
Officers were known as to a described capturing in the rather secluded household neighborhood just just after 6 p.m.
Dependent on an preliminary investigation, law enforcement feel the house owner was outdoors on his residence when a person approached, afterwards identified as 24-12 months-outdated Eduardo Santos from Herndon. They bought into an altercation that became physical, top the resident to retreat into his house.
“He retrieved a firearm from inside the property, and at some level, the guy built entry into the residence with an item that seems to be a massive landscaping rock,” Curry stated. “The homeowner then fired and shot the male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The house owner was taken to a hospital with non-lifestyle-threatening accidents that seem to have come from the assault. Detectives think Santos assaulted the property owner with a adhere, and the house owner sustained the injuries when Santos tackled him and he fell.
His wife and two children ended up in the residence at the time of the taking pictures, alongside with an additional adult who’s unrelated but also a resident of that home, in accordance to police. They were not injured.
The FCPD stated in an update on Friday (Nov. 11) that its officers had been given two phone calls for company about Santos previously on Wednesday.
“After canvassing the space, detectives determined Santos was in the space Wednesday afternoon for several hours,” the division mentioned. “…On a person event, officers found him, but no crime was set up. Santos refused to speak to police, and he walked away from the spot. For the duration of the 2nd incident, Santos was not identified.”
Law enforcement are still doing work to establish what led Santos to the house.
“As we can job interview extra folks, evaluation the surveillance footage, we can get a far better knowledge of what transpired exterior, but there was an assault that transpired exterior on the home that led the home owner to retreat back into the property that led to our deadly taking pictures right here,” Curry explained.
