Children to unleash their vision of the future of our nature and landscapes
Local pupils will be using real museum exhibits and the powers of art and imagination to create an exciting new exhibition about the landscape of North Lincolnshire.
The ‘Reimagining Landscapes’ project will be led by a team of experts from North Lincolnshire Museum who will be working with students from Wrawby St Mary’s CofE Primary School and St Norbet’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy giving them the opportunity to explore natural history objects from their collection.
Using the objects to spark their imagination and creativity students will then embark on the mammoth task of interpreting North Lincolnshire’s landscape, both as it is now and how they envision it might be in the future.
The project has been put together in preparation of Earth Day 2023 celebrations with funding being secured from The Wild Escape project.
The Wild Escape is made possible by lead support from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from Art Fund.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities (urban) said: “I am delighted that we have secured funding for such a creative project. It is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore their local environment and learn about nature and wildlife in their natural habitats.
“Using the power of art and imagination is a brilliant way to get the next generation thinking about the future of the environment, what they think it might look like and the reasons why things are changing.
“Projects like this are key to our children’s learning, as they are fun and inspire children to express their ideas and creativity, whilst also being educational.
“I know our students will set out to create something monumental and I will be waiting in anticipation for the unveiling of the finished piece later this year.”
Children will learn how to draw and illustrate wildlife whilst discussing the topics of the environment, climate change and the importance of pollinators.
Using a variety of resources, including recycled materials, and working with a local digital illustrator the students will be able to create a mixed media artwork masterpiece, that will be displayed in North Lincolnshire Museum.
The unveiling of the artwork will take place on Earth Day, Saturday 22 April 2023 at North Lincolnshire Museum.
All local families are invited to take part in the Earth Day celebrations with the Museum offering free earth themed crafts, interactive storytelling by Rhubarb Theatre and mind-blowing science experiments with Lab Rascals.
